Gary Dean Dewater

Gary Dean Dewater, 75, of Waterloo passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family September 11, 2026. Gary was born April 17, 1951 in Waterloo the son of Keith and Pearl (Thorp) Dewater. After graduating from East High School, he joined the United States Navy from 1969-1973. He served aboard the USS McKean and USS Meyerkord. Gary married Kathleen (Kathy) Mason July15,1972, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Christine of Waterloo and son, Joel (Tandi) of Waverly, 6 grandchildren, Alissa (Riley) Lehman of Brandon, Alexia Dewater, Noah Metcalf both of Waterloo, Lilly Siebrands and Emma Jenson of Waverly, Austin Mahlstedt of Traer, 3 great granddaughters Paisley and Layla Lehman of Brandon and Sedona Santos of Waverly, brother Dick Dewater of Evansdale, sister Kathy (Don) Stone of Waterloo and sister, Ann (Gary) Laue of Glendale, Arizona and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Chuck, Jim, Terry and sister Cheryl Helgeson. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
