John E. Bruha, born December 10, 1931, in New London, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the age of 94. He lived a life defined by scholarship, service, and generosity.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.
John devoted his professional life to the teaching of mathematics. He taught at the University of Northern Iowa from 1959 to 1966 and again from 1969 to 1995. Between those years, from 1966 to 1969, he taught mathematics in Katsina, Nigeria. From 1969 until his passing, John made his home in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and an active member of the community, volunteering with organizations including Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
John will be remembered for his devotion to learning, his service to others, and the quiet generosity he extended to his community. His life leaves a legacy as an educator, veteran, and friend.
